I love recipes. Even better, I love cookbooks. I collect cookbooks. Right now I have 102 cookbooks, 3 of which I put together myself; binders that I made from collected recipes. This is not to count the stacks of collected recipes waiting to be organized somewhere into something that I can use. This is not counting the browser bookmarks I have of recipes. And I just can't get myself to cancel my subscription to the Every Day Food magazine. It's like a consistent friend that you hate to lose. I even go as far as to keep the recipes that come with your new crockpot or rice cooker. I know, pretty pathetic. One of my favorite things to do is go to Border's to the clearance section to browse what I might be able to pick up all about noodles or Italian food or for $5 instead of $40. But it's not just all about the recipes. I love the structure of a cookbook with great pictures and great possibilities. I am a graphic designer by profession, and the creativity of cooking and of design merge perfectly in a great cookbook. I have a deal where I will not buy a cookbook that doesn't have a pictures associated with every recipe. I don't want a mystery recipe that assumes I know how it is going to turn out. I want a picture. I divine photo of what I can accomplish. I love to browse recipe books and dream of a great dinner party or the perfect Sunday meal where everything is beyond what I thought I could do. I love to try the unique and unknown.
Am I great cook? No. Am I decent one? Yes. There is much I need to still learn, including patience in the kitchen, BUT none the less, I am a lover of the art of food. You know it's bad when you try so many new things that your husband begs for a repeat meal, or just plain 'ol spaghetti, or asks you if you actually followed the recipe.
The other thing I LOVE about recipes is the sharing, the enjoying between friends and family. I love when you taste something truly divine at a family party, or a church or community event and you can talk to that person, gushing over this new found love and ask for the recipe to add to your collection. Now you have a recipe you KNOW is great, you KNOW other people like and you KNOW would be hit. You have a fail-proof recipe because it's already been tested, accepted and raved about. Those are the best kind of recipes. That's why I have named my blog, "My Friend's Kitchen". I am no master cook that has endless knowledge that I just need to share with you. What I NEED to share with you are the great recipes in my life that have crossed my path from friends, family or even a lucky trip on the internet and the people that were kind enough to share with them.
So, I hope you will get that same neighborly, cozy feeling when you see what I have to share with you.
